Stories for Impact – Stories After Dark

February – August 2021

Welcome to Stories For Impact, a series of workshops open to anyone who would like to build skills for using storytelling to create impact in the world – whether for driving awareness of a cause or issue, fundraising, amplifying grassroots voices or just getting creative! Each session, we’ll explore a new aspect of storytelling, from how to craft powerful stories, how to use digital technology to create stories through to how to engage audiences across various platforms. You are welcome to attend just one session, or attend all and learn to make a story from start to finish!

Supported by the City of Sydney and delivered in partnership with four amazing organisations, Women 4 Climate Action Sydney, Nature For All Australia, Fighting Chance and IndigiSpace, together we will dive into the storytelling tips, tools and tricks you need to be able to take action and spread the word about the causes you care about.

The program…

Throughout 2021, Digital Storytellers will present a series of workshops around impact storytelling tools and approaches, and also more focused and topical sessions in collaboration with our program partners,  Women 4 Climate Action Sydney, Nature For All AustraliaFighting Chance and IndigiSpace.

FAQs

Who is this series for?

Creators, activists, entrepreneurs – communications experts and budding storytellers with a passion for social change – these workshops are for you! Open to anyone who would like to learn the power of storytelling, whether you are developing your elevator pitch, creating your communications plan, refining your grant applications, building your website or activating your social media platforms.

No prior experience is required. You will need access to internet connection, Zoom and a passion for social change. Certain workshops focused on filmmaking will require a smartphone. If you have never used Zoom before, you can download it here, and if you have any questions or trouble sourcing a smartphone or internet connection please get in touch with the Stories for Impact team.

Where?

Due to the restrictions of COVID-19, these workshops will now be held online via Zoom. The good news is that not only will this make the workshops safer and more accessible, it also allows us to make the most of all of the wonderful digital storytelling tools at our disposal and support as many people as possible to start telling their bold and beautiful new story in the world.

We hope to hold some of the future workshops in our beautiful Impact Story Lab in Darlinghurst and our base of operations – part of the City of Sydney Creative Spaces program.

When?

Workshops will run for 90 minutes, from 6:30pm to 8pm AEDT.

How interactive will they be?

Very much so! Workshops will be practical, hands-on and interactive – through break out groups and paired activities.

How much?

Registration is $20 per session, or $120 to attend all session.

This workshop is heavily subsidised thanks in part to the City of Sydney Nighttime Diversification grant.

What do I get?

Apart from some shiny new storytelling skills and a renewed sense of community and connection (because who doesn’t need that after 2020?!), you will also get access to:

  • Workshop slides

  • An invitation to our closed Stories for Impact Facebook group
  • Any tools, templates and frameworks shared during the sessions
