Stories connect us. They help us make sense of the world, and of each other. A story told well can move someone to care, to act, to give their time or their voice to something bigger than themselves.

A story worth telling isn’t just information, it’s an invitation to see something differently.

That’s what this method is for: helping people find and tell the stories that do that.

Who is this for?

You know the story is there, a program changing lives, a campaign that needs a human face, a community whose voice deserves to be heard properly. This method gives you a process that’s ethical, realistic, and built for people without a production budget or a spare six weeks.

HOW IT WORKS

Our approach

Our method moves through three simple stages. Choose the pace and shape that feels right for you.

MODULE 1

FIND YOUR STORY

Every story starts here. We’ll work through the Story Canvas together, exploring your purpose, audience, key message, and creative elements. Think of your story as a cake you’re about to bake, the Story Canvas is the list of ingredients.

MODULE 2

MAKE YOUR STORY

Phone camera out. We’ll walk you through filming interviews, capturing b-roll, and recording usable audio. This is where the story stops being an idea and starts being something real.

MODULE 3

EDIT AND SHARE YOUR STORY

Turn your footage into a compelling video that moves people to act, give, or care, plus a plan for reaching the audience that needs to see it.

Do them one at a time, spaced out over weeks. Do all three in a single sprint. Or work through them online, at your own pace. However you move through the three stages, you will end up with a story you made yourself, ready to be shared with the world.

FIVE WAYS IN

Choose your path

Choose how you want to move through the storytelling journey. Same three modules, five ways to get there.

TESTIMONIALS

Hear from people who’ve taken this journey

“Digital Storytelling workshop is for everyone. Ranges of experience were catered for in our small group. We had fun, learnt a lot and got to walk away with a near finished video. A+”

Kim

“It’s a very hands on program with great support throughout. The timing is good too so you have enough time to think about your story before filming. Very happy with the end result and surprised at what can be delivered after one day of editing. Thank you”

Joy, City of Casey

“So much learning packed into a short amount of time. The positive energy of the trainers is also contagious – best investment of my time for a long time!”

Kerry, Lake McCity Council

“We used to rely on photos & ‘blurbs’ to tell people what we do. Now we can show them real people, tell real stories.”

Mari, Mid Canterbury TimeBank

“I have the confidence now to put my hand up and say ‘I can make a video about that if you like’.”

Linda, DAF

“Loved getting into the making and having the support of such encouraging facilitators. To Promote the work of our organisation and ACCO sector, to tell the stories of impact and success from a self-determined place.”
