Edit & Share Story Day

MODULE 3

You’ve got the footage. Now let’s finish the story. This session takes you from raw footage to a completed, shareable video, guided step by step by the Digital Storytellers team.

In the course you will:

  • Learn how to organise your footage before you start editing
  • Review your footage and choose the strongest story moments
  • Structure your video with a clear beginning, middle and end
  • Use b-roll to cover cuts and make your video more engaging
  • Pick up basic editing techniques: trimming, sequencing, adding text
  • Add music, sound and captions where appropriate
  • Export your video ready for sharing online
  • Get tips for reaching the right audience with your finished story

You’ll also have dedicated time to work on your own edit, with support from the Digital Storytellers team, and the chance to screen your draft for feedback.

What you’ll leave with:

A completed, edited video, ready to share. You’ll also come away with working knowledge of mobile and desktop editing tools, and tips for getting your story out to the people who need to see it.

Who it’s for:

This workshop is for anyone who’s already been through a Digital Storytellers experience and has footage ready to work with. This might include:

  • Participants from our in-person workshops
  • Participants from our online storytelling workshops
  • People who’ve completed or started our online course
  • Social entrepreneurs, nonprofit staff and community storytellers who’ve filmed footage through a Digital Storytellers process
  • Comms, fundraising or program staff who need practical support to finish a video story

This workshop is suitable for beginner and intermediate-level participants who would like in-depth guidance on how to EDIT short videos for social media and campaigns.

What do I need to bring?

  • Your smartphone or camera!
  • A charger for your device
  • A laptop, tablet or smartphone for editing
  • Headphones
  • A mouse for editing (optional)
  • Your footage!

Your footage might include interviews, piece-to-camera clips, b-roll, photos, project footage, event footage or short clips captured during or after one of our workshops.
