2 Day Intensive Story Workshop

MODULE 1, 2 & 3 (FULL JOURNEY)

For those ready to dive in fully. Over two days, the Digital Storytellers team will walk you through the whole journey, from story idea to finished shareable video.

In the course you will:

Day 1, Find & Make Your Story:

  • Use our Story Canvas tool to brainstorm and shape your story concept
  • Learn narrative frameworks for social impact storytelling
  • Film interviews and b-roll on your smartphone or tablet
  • Record good quality audio in the field

Day 2, Edit & Share Your Story:

  • Get an introduction to editing platforms, on both phone and desktop
  • Work step by step through the editing process, from raw footage to finished cut
  • Pick up tips for reaching your audience with your finished story

What you’ll leave with:

A completed, edited video, ready to share, plus the full set of skills behind it: story development, filming, and editing, all in one continuous journey.

Who it’s for:

Anyone ready to commit to the full process in one go: social entrepreneurs, comms professionals at nonprofits, aspiring filmmakers, or anyone with a story they want to take from idea to finished film in 2 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

What level of experience is this workshop suitable for?

This workshop is suitable for beginner and intermediate-level participants who would like in-depth guidance on how to create short videos for social media and campaigns.

More advanced storytellers may not require the time and practice provided in this two-day format and might find the half-day Intro workshop to be a better investment of time.

What do I need to bring?

  • Your smartphone or camera!
  • A charger for your device
  • A laptop, tablet or smartphone for editing
  • Headphones
  • A mouse for editing (optional)

What editing software will be used in the workshop?

Will I make a film over the course of the two days?

Yes – Over the course of the two days we will take you through each stage of our filmmaking process and you will have the opportunity to complete a short video on a topic of your choosing.

Note that storytelling is very much about capturing the right people and places to communicate a story. We have spaced out the two dates to give you time to get access to the people and places that will allow you to tell your story effectively.

If you would prefer not to choose a topic or gather your own footage, you are welcome to use the practice footage filmed during the workshop.
